Manga-Anime-Cosplay

If you are someone who is into Japanese Pop Culture, you are probably already aware of what Manga & Anime are.

For the uninitiated, Manga are comics or graphic novels that have been said to have originated in Japan in the late 19th Century. They cater to a broad age range and the genres include action, adventure, comedy, drama, and romance just to name a few. With Manga being translated into many languages, it has gained worldwide popularity. It has become a major part of the publishing industry.

Anime, are either hand-drawn or computer-drawn animation produced in Japan. Anime are distributed through various channels such as OTT, TV broadcasts, etc. Anime consist of original stories as well as adaptations from Manga.

Cosplay or costume play in which cosplayers portray characters from anime, manga, or sources such as cartoons and popular characters from TV shows and movies. Apart from stage performances, cosplayers also often do interactive role-playing at other events and venues.

All these 3 forms of pop culture, serve as a means of relaxation for the Japanese, a relief from the humdrum of their day-to-day work-life.

Aside from being a mere source of entertainment, some of the characters and stories also bring to life characters and scenes from mythology, history, religious beliefs, and folklore. There are those that converge the present and past too with interesting storylines.

If you haven’t tried these, now is the best time to give it a shot.

SNRC will be conducting a live workshop that will be streamed through an online platform on Cosplay at the Japan Habba 2022 (https://japanhabba.org/). Refer to the poster for details.
