Is bookish knowledge of Languages sufficient?

Learning languages is a fun pursuit, that tickles both one’s creative and logical reasoning interests.

Languages provide a window to a world culture, history and people. Learning languages shatters borders and enables us to make friends across the country and globe.

There are many aspects to learning a language as such grammar, vocabulary, phrases, idioms etc. It may be possible to acquire these skills by going through books, videos podcasts etc. However, “communication” is something that uses language as one of its tools and works both ways. To be able to comprehend what is being communicated is one side of the coin. On the other is, to be able to articulate clearly what one wishes to convey.

It is therefore important to assess if your needs require you to be able to communicate or just be able to comprehend what’s being conveyed to you.

At Sakuraa Nihongo Resource Centre, we lay emphasis on both aspects. Learning Japanese language through the rules of grammar and the meanings of words is as important as being able to grasp the nuances of the language and being able to communicate.

While our courses aimed at taking the proficiency tests focus more on helping students prepare for these exams, we supplement these with lots of inter-batch activities, culture sessions, workshops on translations, interpretation skills etc, to help bridge this gap.

The latest addition to our gamut of activities to this end is the PRO-MJE (Professional Model Japanese Exam). This is a certificate exam provided by Sakuraa Nihongo Resource Centre. A means for Japanese language learners to assess their Reading, wRiting & aRticulation skills. Assessed by a native Japanese panel, this test, will provide insights into where one stands in their speaking, reading & writing skills. In the Japanese business world, these skills are key as we need interact with our Japanese colleagues and counterparts, day-in & day-out. Be it during meetings, customer interactions, document sharing or e-mail transactions – communication in Japanese becomes key.
