How do you de-stress?

The load of work and academics round the clock has definitely taken a toll on all of us. We are
forever looking for a means to un-wind and enjoy. However, some of us also prefer to indulge in
hobbies that are also useful to us for our future academic or career pursuits.
The most common suggestions for activities to pursue in order to de-stress, include indulging in the
pursuit of arts. How about channelling your energies towards learning a new language?
Learning a second language is said to thwart the onset of diseases like the Alzheimer’s. Keeping the
brain active is critical to our ageing process.
While we engage in learning a new language, knowingly or un-knowingly, we also learn about a new
culture, a new identity of people, their history, their country. This broadens our horizons for trying
out new cuisines, fashion styles, travel; the options are endless. Cross-border friendships also widen
our perspectives. Newer opportunities may also open up.
The latest trend is learning East-Asian languages. Japan being a world economic power & this year
marking the 70 th year of diplomatic relations between the two countries, learning Japanese is a great
option to explore.
