As any exam draws near, comes the anxiety of preparing well. Here are some time-tested techniques that you can follow to ease the anxiety. These tips will also help you enjoy your journey of learning! Follow these tips for learning the Japanese language as well.
- Plan ahead
This may sound obvious, but a lack of planning can leave one in the lurches at the last minute. Depending on how many portions you need to go through, set aside the requisite amount of time for learning the topics.
A calendarized study timetable will help you apportion the syllabus into smaller portions that are perfect for your everyday preparation. Make a to-do list of what you wish to study each day. Putting a “tick mark” against each of the completed tasks will give you a sense of accomplishment and also reassurance that you are on the right track.
Ensure you have “back-up” days to make up for any portion that got missed out due to unavoidable circumstances. If you didn’t miss any portion, good for you, use the “back-up” days to do a quick revision of what you have mastered thus far.
- Study groups
Learning is always fun when we do it with company. Organize yourselves into small study groups. Pick friends or family who are at the same level as you in your learning process to encourage and challenge each other. For those learning the Japanese language, you could choose your study group partners from the same JLPT level to prepare for the Japanese Language Exams.
Quizzing each other, preparing notes together, revising the important points can all have a powerful impact on your learning. While we learn with our friends, we come across thought processes and ideas, perhaps which have not occurred to us earlier. This will help us gain a fresh perspective on the topics we are focused on learning.
For those of us who enjoy being competitive, quizzing and challenging become a fun way of learning.
- Revise
When you make a study plan, set aside time to revise. Revision helps us organize our thoughts, firm up loose ends in our learning, and also gives us a grasp on what we know well and where we need to focus a little more.
Work out problems, solve sample question papers and go over the important topics once again. A good revision helps you feel reassured before you take up the exam.
